A Room Parent is a volunteer who supports the teacher and serves as a liaison between the classroom, parents, and the PTO. You help coordinate classroom events, organize volunteers, and keep families informed throughout the year.
Each class typically has one or two Room Parents. Having a co-room parent helps share responsibilities and makes communication easier.
Room Parents typically:
Organize classroom celebrations (e.g., fall party, winter celebration, end-of-year event)
Help collect donations for teacher gifts or supplies (optional)
Coordinate volunteers for field trips or class activities
Share PTO and school-wide event information with parents
Support the teacher with small tasks as needed (at their discretion)
Not at all! Most tasks are occasional and can often be done via email or text. You can choose what you’re comfortable handling, and you’ll have support from the PTO and other parents.
Not necessarily. While some events may happen during school hours, many tasks—like coordinating volunteers or sending communications—can be done from home. Flexibility is key!
You’ll be provided with a class contact list (once permission is given) and can communicate via:
Email or messaging apps
Class newsletters
PTO updates
Sometimes Room Parents coordinate small group gifts (for holidays, Teacher Appreciation Week, etc.), but it’s completely optional and always communicated transparently and respectfully.
Lots! The Saddle View PTO will provide:
A Room Parent kickoff guide
Templates for emails and sign-ups
Event reminders
A contact person if you have questions or need help
Every teacher is different! Some may ask for more involvement, others may prefer minimal support. We encourage you to check in early with your teacher to understand their preferences and needs.
You can sign up at Meet the Teacher night, via the PTO interest form, or by emailing the PTO directly at saddleviewpto@gmail.com. We'd love to have you on board!
Being a Room Parent is a fun and meaningful way to be involved at Saddle View. Thank you for helping make our classrooms feel like a community!
